Georgian Painting - Masters of 20th Century

"We hereby present to your attention a catalogue of a series of exhibitions  - "The Twentieth Century Masters – from generation to generation", which were held at the "Modern Art Gallery". Along with the works of the great masters of Georgian art, this catalogue will acquaint you with the canvasses of a new generation of painters.

We do hope that this cycle of exhibitions and this edition will foster the development and promotion of Georgian art, and will give us, once again, an opportunity to see a world of beauty. It will acquaint us with the cultural values that have been created by Georgian painters over different periods of the 20th century.
We wish to convey our gratitude to those who had assisted us in the preparation and publishing of this catalogue."

These are the authors’ opening words for each of the four volumes of these wonderfully published catalogues. The albums are the reflections of four exhibitions of remarkable Georgian masters of the 20th century, and make up an extremely interesting and colorful picture of modern Georgian painting.

The project itself has been very interesting, and rather different and unusual.  The four exhibitions of modern Georgian artists were neither retrospective, nor academic nor chronological. This was merely an attempt to present extraordinary specimens of art; it was just a matter of collecting, searching and putting together as much as possible… Bashbeuk Melikov, Zurab Nizharadze, Albert Dilbariani, Edmund Kalandadze, Jibson Khundadze, Givi Aghapishvili, Tamaz Khutsishvili, Radish Tordia, Givi Toidze, and many others… Both the classics and some wonderful Georgian artists of the new generation… The art that has moved from walls to paper – from generation to generation…

Subsequently, some extraordinarily published catalogues reflecting each event followed each exhibition, and have virtually become their historians. None of the catalogues has claimed to be an anthology; it was only a desire to collect and to fulfil,  to demonstrate and present our spiritual culture.

The outcome turned out to be totally unexpected. An interesting and inimitable picture of contemporary Georgian art was created, reflecting the Georgian art of the 20th century as a whole.

The inspiration for this effort was Mr. Gia Jokhtaberidze, an infinite art-lover and a patron of art. It was thanks to his enormous effort that the initiation and completion of this work was made possible. The second author of the project, Gia Janberidze, prepared the exhibitions and put together the catalogues.

And finally, as a result of a joint effort, commitment, and the hard work of the entire Neostudio team, the Georgian public has been given the opportunity to view the catalogues published in four volumes, and printed on a remarkable polygraphic level.
