A dual subscription SIM card

“Oh, the mobile is ringing again!  I really need to get another card to avoid all these business calls in the evenings”, grumbles an exhausted mobile phone user annoyed by endless calls.  He does actually buy another card and this might help for a couple of days.  At home our hypothetical customer is not bothered by business calls and in the office he does not have to think about the family problems.  But after a while it appears that managing two cards is not an easy task - you have to take out the battery, switch SIM cards and re-assemble the mobile.  The same procedure needs to be followed twice a day and this frequent re-assembling may result in damage and even the loss of the card.  This is exactly why  MAGTICOM has introduced a new service.

Since February 2000 MAGTICOM sales and service offices have offered dual subscription SIMs. MAGTICOM customers will be the first in Georgia to experience this innovation in SIM software.  From now on MAGTICOM users will no longer have to purchase two SIM cards in order to switch from one number to another during the day.

HOW DOES A SIM CARD WITH TWO TELEPHONE NUMBERS OPERATE?

A dual subscription SIM card, at first sight, looks like a conventional SIM card.  The only difference is that instead of one, two numbers are indicated on it.  These numbers work independently from each other, working the same way as they would if they were numbers assigned to two different cards.  The number to be activated is chosen by entering the corresponding PIN.  This means that you have to add either 01 or 02 to the main PIN indicated on the card envelope.  Numbers can be switched by re-starting the mobile and entering a new PIN.

Another advantage that will certainly please a user of a dual subscription SIM card is that its memory has been extended and it can now store more numbers - about 240 - compared to conventional SIM cards that can only store 100 - 150 numbers.  Also, the numbers database can be accessed from any of the two numbers.

* Two numbers - one for business contacts, another for friends.  So, instead of switching off your mobile on Friday night you just activate the second number ‘disclosed’ to your family and friends only.  When you get back to the office (and your ‘business’ telephone number) on Monday you will be able to check the messages left on your MAGTI GSM voice mail.

* If it happens that you do not wish someone you call on the mobile to know your ‘business’ number, you can switch numbers in seconds, make a phone call and get back to your day-time number.  So someone you have called will only be able to trace the number that is usually off.  Such ‘flexibility’ will enable you to minimize unwanted calls.

* Companies can purchase a dual subscription SIM card for their staff, who normally use mobiles for both business and private calls.  Introduction of dual subscription SIM cards will help companies to distinguish between these two types of calls and reduce procrastination in the workplace.
